Highlands' Garden Village: Green Commons

Denver, Colorado

Highlands’ Garden Village Green Commons, the final phase of the community development,
provides a model for new retail development that catalyzes revitalization along deteriorating commercial corridors. Developed by Jonathan Rose Companies’ affiliate, Perry Rose, the project
contains a total of 73,000 SF of commercial, retail and office space located in five buildings.

Completed in 2007, the project is anchored on the northwest corner by a 28,000 square foot building occupied by Sunflower Farmers Market, an affordable local natural food grocer committed to providing a healthy environment for its customers. As Sunflower Farmers Market’s first newly constructed store, the building achieved the first LEED Gold certification for Core and Shell ever awarded to a super market.

Many sustainable practices were used in the building’s construction including the use of recycled materials, water conserving fixtures and day-lighting controls. Posters and plaques are strategically distributed throughout the store to raise customer awareness of the many benefits of green building.

HGV Green Commons tenants include: Sunflower Farmers Market, 24 Hour Fitness, Highlands Family Physicians, Highlands Eyecare, Comfort Dental and Vida Chiropractic. The diverse tenant base contributes to a vibrant, healthy community to all residents of the economically diverse community and surrounding neighborhood. Other tenants of HGV Green Commons include: Revolution Cleaners; an environmentally friendly dry cleaner; Starbucks Coffee; Evolution Salon, an Aveda concept salon; and Highlands Fine Wine and Liquors.

Environmentally responsible features of the development include: permeable parking surfaces, drought tolerant plants, solar photo voltaic sun shades, low VOC paints, and low flow plumbing fixtures.
