Jonathan Rose Companies is currently working closely with the City of Newark, the Trust for Public Land, and Lee Weintraub Associates to develop a 6.5 acre waterfront park along the Passaic River in the Ironbound District of Newark, New Jersey. Specifically, Jonathan Rose Companies is providing project management assistance for the design and construction of the waterfront park. The park will provide a much needed open space amenity for the tightly knit adjacent Ironbound community as well as for the residents and businesses of greater Newark.
Currently in the design phase, the proposed park will include walkways, recreation areas and event venues to reactivate the park and greenway system. A guiding principle for the project is to create an environmentally thoughtful design that builds strong access and connections from the neighborhoods to the waterfront as a civic amenity.
As with most American riverfront sites, the industrial past of the Newark Passaic Riverfront presents the project team with a variety of environmental remediation challenges and wetland reclamation opportunities. The proposed park design will manage these challenges, and capitalize on opportunities to educate park visitors with active and attractive ecological water management features. As the first park of its kind along the industrial Newark Passaic Riverfront, it will serve as both a catalyst and a model for future green waterfront park development. |
