Ms. Rowden leads Jonathan Rose Companies’ Investment Practice, drawing on 25 years of expertise in the real estate industry. She has responsibility for all aspects of the firm’s fund business including acquisitions, financing, asset management and investor relations.
Jonathan Rose Companies’ Investment Practice is the first in the United States to successfully build an equity platform targeting the acquisition and green transformation of existing buildings. Recent projects include the preservation and greening of 107-145 West 135th Street, a 198-unit Section 8 project in Harlem, and the renovation and greening of 45-55 Church Street, an office building with ground floor retail near Yale University that was financed with New Market Tax Credits. The multi-million dollar capital improvement program at West 135th Street was accomplished with tenants in-place and was the first recipient of Federal stimulus money to green affordable housing. 45-55 Church is the first LEED EB Silver property in New Haven, Connecticut.
The Investment Practice also obtained LEED EB Gold certification for the Vance Building in Seattle, Washington. Recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and AIA Seattle as a national model of green, historic office building preservation, the Vance Building has been coined “ground zero for the green movement in Seattle” by tenants and local press.
Other fund assets include Tapestry, a mixed income multifamily project built to LEED Gold and Enterprise Green Community Criteria standards in East Harlem, and the historic Clipper Mill mixed-use complex in Baltimore, Maryland. An adaptive re-use of mill buildings, Clipper Mill won a 2008 ULI Award for Excellence.
Prior to joining Jonathan Rose Companies, Ms. Rowden served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of The Rockefeller Group, the U.S. Subsidiary of Mitsubishi Estate Co., one of the largest real estate concerns in the world. Ms. Rowden is a past president of WX and a former member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Cushman & Wakefield and Safe Space NYC. She is currently on the Board of the Maimonides Medical Center. She has received numerous awards including the United Way’s first Women United in Philanthropy award.
A member of the Urban Land Institute, the Pension Real Estate Association, and the Real Estate Board of New York, Ms. Rowden also is a featured speaker on smart growth investments and the greening of existing buildings. She holds an undergraduate degree from Brown University and law degrees from the University of Michigan and New York University.
