COMMUNITIES OF OPPORTUNITY: CATEGORIES OF IMPACT

Civic Engagement

In 2018, we launched our Rose Votes initiative. Partnering with the League of Women Voters Education Fund we created an initiative designed to encourage residents to make use of their electoral power in the 2018 mid-term elections. Our collaboration with LWV led to over 30 non-partisan voter registration and education events in local communities totaling nearly 6,500 households. Attending residents had the opportunity to register to vote, find out how to ensure their ballot will be counted, and learn how to empower their friends, family, colleagues and neighbors to successfully participate in elections.

Our voter registration initiative was followed up with a “Get out to Vote campaign”. We partnered with Lyft who provided free transportation to underserved communities that face significant obstacles to transportation.

We plan to expand this 2018 pilot voter registration program to our entire portfolio nationwide totaling more than 15,000 households, as well as other third-party owners and managers, in time for the 2020 elections.

We strongly encourage the active participation of our residents in their communities to have a voice in shaping policies that affect their daily lives. Voting increases the chance that their voices will be heard.
