COMMUNITIES OF OPPORTUNITY: CATEGORIES OF IMPACT

Education

Socioeconomic factors have a large and pervasive influence over educational achievement. Our programming seeks to reverse this trend and provides education opportunities for all age groups within our properties.

Our buildings are designed to include fully fitted computer rooms, available to all residents providing vital online resources to our communities. We run homework clubs and reading groups for children and partner with local community organizations to bring ESL training, GED classes and other ongoing adult education classes to our residents.

In the summer months, we provide not only scholarships to external summer camps, but also deliver our own summer camp for our younger residents which includes a summer reading program, helping students to retain the knowledge they have gained during the school year.

Studies have repeatedly shown a link between poverty and education. The educational disadvantage of low income communities can be seen at all levels of the educational spectrum.
