Owner's Representative—Brooklyn, New York
The Brooklyn Friends School
The Brooklyn Friends School (BFS) is an independent college preparatory Quaker school serving students from Preschool through Grade 12. It is committed to educating each student intellectually, aesthetically, physically, and spiritually in a culturally diverse community. Guided by the Quaker principles of truth, simplicity, and peaceful resolution of conflict, Brooklyn Friends School offers each student a challenging education that develops intellectual abilities and ethical and social values to support a productive life of leadership and service.
BFS was founded in 1867 and has a current enrollment of 655 students. With the transformation of downtown Brooklyn as a desirable place to live and the growing prominence of the Borough as a whole, BFS has commenced an expansion plan that will increase student enrollment to 900 full time students by the year 2020.
The anticipated expansion plan includes the relocation of the lower and middle schools from their current location at 375 Pearl St to a new 50,000 SF site proximate to downtown Brooklyn. The high school would then be relocated from its current leased space to the 375 Pearl St. property. The school is targeting occupancy by September 2014.
Jonathan Rose Companies' Owner's Representative practice has been engaged to manage site selection, feasibility analyses, budgeting and financial management, and coordination of all work to support the design and construction process through to occupancy. Jonathan Rose Companies is steering these processes to align carefully with BFS's strategic vision for expansion and to meet the demand of the school's timetable and programmatic needs.
