Owner's Representative—Mamaroneck, New York

The Mamaroneck Public Library

The Mamaroneck Public Library engaged Jonathan Rose Companies as its real estate advisor and project manager for the renovation and expansion of their facility in downtown Mamaroneck, New York. Prior to Jonathan Rose Companies' involvement in the project, the Library Board acquired a lot adjacent to the existing building and retained the services of a library consultant to generate an extensive report on the current state of the Library and the needs of a facility serving a community such as Mamaroneck.

Jonathan Rose Companies joined the project during the architectural selection process and participated in a series of intensive interviews and site visits leading to the choice of BKSK Architects as designers for the new facility. The Library's Building Committee spent Fall 2005 considering three options for the size of the project. The Board chose to pursue the most ambitious project in order for the Library to accommodate both the current and future needs of the community.

BKSK Architects is working with special emphasis on creating an environmentally responsible building designed to LEED Silver standards. Because the building's grossly inefficient mechanical systems will be replaced, it is hoped that the additional 20,000 square feet of space will add only nominally to the operating costs of the facility once energy-efficient systems are installed. Similarly, with better spatial organization and sightlines, additional staff will be kept at a minimum while providing enhanced services already in strong demand at the outdated building.
