Jonathan Rose Companies is leading a planning team in a market analysis and Transit-Oriented Development strategy plan of the “Knowledge Corridor,” the region surrounding Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA, for the Capital Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC).

Following the award of a HUD Sustainable Communities Grant, CRCOG and PVPC selected Jonathan Rose Companies, in conjunction with the Center for Transit Oriented Development, to conduct an in-depth market study of the Knowledge Corridor. The States of Connecticut and Massachusetts are investing $1.5 billion in transit improvements, including a new bus rapid transit line and new commuter rail service, and aim to capitalize on these investments by prioritizing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) around the future transit stations.

To accomplish this, the Jonathan Rose Companies team is analyzing economic conditions, demographic change and the real estate market at the regional, corridor and station-area scales. The team will assess the data and will advise how public agencies can work with knowledge sector businesses to capitalize on the infrastructure and create new opportunities for development around the planned stations

The study will include a framework for private and public investment, as delivering high-quality TOD in the region will require coordinated efforts by multiple stakeholders. Part of the study will in a section focusing on implementation, providing the CRCOG/PVPC with a matrix of potential funding sources and outlining a clear set of priorities, action steps and responsible parties that will provide a clear pathway to achieve their vision.
